75th Anniversary Convention 2002

Our 75th anniversary convention included a visit from Peter Mayer and Maureen Nagy of Overlook Press, a new puppet show, and some of the best presentations ever. Most coverage will be in the newsletter, but here are some photos from the event.

Our setting (for the third time - a new record) is the Windham Arms Inn.

On Friday night, Friends of Freddy listen to Alice welcoming them.

Rob Loud reads from (appropriately) To & Again to conclude the evening's formal activities.
It's Saturday morning, and clinical psychologist John McNeil is explaining what makes the Bean Farm a good example of a successful family.

Rebecca Loud talks about her father reading the Freddy books to her as he looks on.

Lee Secrest re-creates one of the radio broadcasts with Walter Brooks before playing a tape of Kurt Wiese. (Note photo of Wiese in corner.)

On a bright and beautiful Sunday morning, Freddyites chat with Brooks' stepdaughter, Diana Halpern, and her husband, Pete.

Financial journalist Randy Cepuch teaches us how to "Invest Like a Pig."

While history professor Patricia Behre Miskimin expands on the topic "Freddy: Capitalist Pig?"

And third-year law student Aladdine Joroff discusses the court cases in the Freddy series.

And now for something completely different: John Chastain performs "The Bean Farm Rap."

To the delight (or possibly stunned disbelief) of the attendees.

Come Monday morning and things are winding down, though Alice looks into mapping downtown Centerboro and vicinity.

Michael Cart backs off from channeling Walter Brooks, though he does read an entertaining and revealing essay written by him, entitled (I think) "Why I Hate Everybody."
